Following a performance in support of the newly-released Street Survivors album, at the Greenville Memorial Auditorium in Greenville, South Carolina, on October 20th, 1977, Lynyrd Skynyrd boarded a chartered plane with a faulty engine to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After running low on fuel the pilots attempted an emergency landing before crashing in a heavily forested area five miles northeast of Gillsburg, Mississippi. Singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, background singer Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary, and co-pilot William Gray were killed on impact.

Christian metallers Stryper have checked in with the following update:

"We've just introduced a new T to the Stryper online store to coincide with the upcoming release of the film: Electric Jesus.

Electric Jesus - a coming of age, rock-and-roll comedy, follows the ill-fated exploits of a Stryper-loving, Christian metal band during the summer of 1986. The film is set to be released November 2 in the U.S. and Canada — soon, through the entire world!

The film stars The Office’s Brian Baumgartner as the band’s woebegone road manager, '80s teen icon Judd Nelson as a firebrand preacher, and newcomers Andrew Eakle, Shannon Hutchinson, and Wyatt Lenhart as devout teens determined to 'make Jesus famous.'

Electric Jesus has been making waves in the U.S. film festival circuit, winning numerous awards and converting hundreds of devotees. It is a stunning breakout from writer / director Chris White, who co-produced the film with his wife Emily Reach White and co-wrote the film’s original songs with alt-rock musician, Daniel Smith.

Chris, Emily, and Daniel screened the film for Stryper several months ago, and we loved it! Together, we came up with the idea for this new T-shirt. In Electric Jesus, the movie band gets a shot to open for Stryper and Mötley Crüe on the mythic Heaven & Hell concert tour. So as a tribute to this, and in celebration of the release of our friends’ super-cool movie, we offer this limited edition, tribute T!

O que aconteceu com a banda de Thrash Metal Heathen? (Quebrando o silêncio)

 

Outro dia, eu estava me perguntando o que aconteceu com a banda de thrash metal de San Francisco, Heathen. Então, depois de girar uma cópia de Breaking The Silence , decidi descobrir. Parece que Heathen está sendo preparado para o sucesso. Eles estavam no lugar certo na hora certa (na Era de Ouro do thrash metal ), eles fizeram todas as turnês adequadas, tiveram grandes produtores de rock ( Ronny Montrose ) produzindo-os e até pareciam estar recebendo um empurrão de a gravadora?

Então o que aconteceu? Por que o sucesso do thrash metal escapou do Heathen?

Eu sabia que os dois únicos álbuns eram Breaking the Silence (1987) e Victims of Deception (1991). As vítimas saíram bem quando a cena do thrash metal foi varrida pelo grunge, mas Breaking the Silence teve uma pequena quantidade de airplay e até mesmo um vídeo para a capa do Sweet “Set Me Free” em rotação no Headbangers Ball.

Durante o apogeu de “ Breaking ” da banda, eles foram atormentados por mudanças na formação, o que levou a um longo período entre seus dois primeiros álbuns. O guitarrista (e shedder absoluto) Lee Atlus era o único membro estável durante aquele tempo..

Em 2005, Lee Atlus substituiu Rick Hunolt na guitarra em Exodus , com a qual ele ainda toca.
Reuniões 2009/2020

Em 2009 a banda se reuniu e lançou The Evolution Of Chaos . Heathen fez turnê por alguns meses antes de ser atingido novamente com mais mudanças na formação, o que levou a mais inatividade.

Em 2020, Heathen se reformou novamente e lançou Empire Of The Blind , embora a banda esteja cética sobre o quanto eles serão capazes de fazer uma turnê para divulgar o álbum devido ao excesso de bandas que querem entrar na estrada depois de COVID .

NECROMANCER lança novo single e lyric video, ‘Dreadful Ruler’

 

O grupo carioca de thrash metal Necromancer, formado por Marcelo Coutinho (vocal), Luiz Fernando e Eduardo “Dek” (guitarras), Gustavo Fernandez (baixo) e Vinicius Cavalcanti (bateria), apresenta o novo single e lyric video, “Dreadful Ruler“. O primeiro lançamento após o segundo álbum, “Pattern of Repulse” (2020) tem a temática inspirada na história de Medusa, da mitologia grega. “A ideia foi contar um pouco da história do mito da Medusa que, resumindo, foi a única das Górgonas que nasceu bonita e mortal. Por sua beleza, acabou seduzindo o rei do mar, Poseidon, que a engravidou e, por isso, gerou raiva na rainha Athena que a enfeitiçou, transformando-a em uma pessoa horrenda, com cobras como seu cabelo. Ela acabou sendo decapitada enquanto dormia”, explicou o guitarrista Luiz Fernando, autor da letra. “Medusa já inspirou o nome de várias bandas de metal e de letras, como a do Anthrax, mas como costumo tratar de temas históricos e mitológicos nas letras, escolhi esta para o novo single”, acrescentou.

O lyric video foi criado por Alex Martins, guitarrista e vocalista do Storm Kill Project, que conta com participação do baixista e do baterista do Necromancer. “Este projeto foi criado por Alex durante a pandemia, naquele formato de composição à distância – no caso, ele em Curitiba (PR) e a gente no Rio. Basicamente é um som variado, que mescla thrash metal ‘old school’, heavy metal, crossover, punk e o que surgir em nossas mentes”, revelou Gustavo Fernandez.

A mixagem e masterização do single “Dreadful Ruler” foram feitas por Fernando Perazzo no estúdio Hanoi, mesmo local onde os álbuns “Pattern of Repulse” e “Forbidden Art” (2014) foram gravados. “Desta vez, as sessões de baixo, bateria e o solo de Eduardo Dek foram feitas em nosso home studio. Já os vocais e todas as guitarras, incluindo o outro solo, ocorreram no estúdio Hanoi”, revelou Luiz Fernando. “Acabei usando um cabeçote muito bom, que testei em um dos ensaios que fizemos em um outro estúdio. Gostei do timbre da guitarra, ligada diretamente no amplificador. Usei este para gravação de todas as bases e do meu solo”, acrescentou.

O baterista Vinicius Cavalcanti concluiu revelando os planos futuros da banda: “Voltar aos ensaios regulares com a banda completa, fazer shows para promover o novo single e as músicas dos dois álbuns, especialmente do mais recente, ‘Pattern of Repulse’, e seguir nas composições para novos lançamentos futuros são nossos próximos alvos em curto prazo”.

MEMBERS OF METALLICA, SLAYER, ANTHRAX, AND MORE WISH HAPPY 30TH ANNIVERSARY TO MACHINE HEAD

 

Members of Metallica, Korn, Slayer, System Of A Down, Anthrax, Five Finger Death Punch, Testament, Exodus, Behemoth, Lamb Of God, Halestorm, Trivium, Fear Factory, Kreator, Hatebreed, Death Angel, Repentance, and more have gotten together to congratulate Machine Head on the 30 year anniversary of the band.

On October 12th, 1991 at the Oakland, CA "Day On The Green" concert, a young Robb Flynn stood watching Metallica perform the “Black” album for it's first time and made the decision to start and mastermind his own band. Originally intended to be just a side project, after paying his dues in the underground Bay Area thrash scene as lead guitarist in both Forbidden and Vio-Lence, by February '92 Machine Head would become Flynn's full-time project and under his stewardship grew to become a worldwide force in metal.



Now some 30 years later, Machine Head are recognized as one of metal's most influential and pioneering bands with countless sold out world tours, gold and silver records, Grammy nominations, hundreds of millions of streams and over 4 million records sold under their belt, and that's without even mentioning their legions of devoted fans worldwide, affectionately known as 'Head Cases’.

NICK HIPA (EX-AS I LAY DYING) FORMA A NOVA BANDA MIRE; CONFIRA O SINGLE “REFINED”

O ex-guitarrista do As I Lay Dying, Nick Hipa, apresenta sua nova banda de Metalcore, Mire. A primeira música do grupo já pode ser ouvida.


Nick Hipa, que acaba de deixar o As I Lay Dying em agosto de 2021, já está lançando o primeiro single “Refined”, incluindo um videoclipe, com sua nova banda de Metalcore, Mire. Ele se separou de As I Lay Dying “porque a história e o significado sobre os quais construímos nossa reunificação se desintegraram consideravelmente com o tempo.”

E mal desapareceu de cena, Hipa reaparece menos de dois meses depois com um novo grupo. O guitarrista está feliz com seu novo projeto. “Estou muito animado para lançar novas músicas da minha banda Mire”, diz ele. “Ryan, Benton e eu começamos essa jornada juntos em 2017. Com o simples desejo de criar música estilisticamente desinibida, baseada na admiração mútua por composições baseadas em riffs. Nosso primeiro single ‘Refined’ já foi lançado. É uma melodia decentemente chocante que é apenas uma faceta do que criamos juntos. Eu realmente espero que vocês gostem e estou ansioso para lançar mais faixas em um futuro próximo.”
